A Womenswear collection for Walter Van Beirendonck S/S 14

The world of synthetic biology explores nature on a nano level in hopes of altering it to perform to the benefit of man. Plants can be altered to create lace and goats can be genetically modified to create silk, all for the sake of making sustainable manufacturing a part of nature itself.

In the chemically explorative state, we are slowly but surely altering our environment around us and the way we see it. But a question lies heavily in the air. As nature is ever evolving, how will this new form of nature evolve post-modification?

This inspires a surrealistic womenswear collection for Walter van Beirendonck. Inspired by the world of Roald Dahl's famous book and movie 'Charlie and the Chocolate factory', and the quirky world of Willy Wonka is fun yet a little disturbing. In his story every child who does not obey the rules is ultimately eaten by the system, maybe this is what will happen with us?

This inspires plastic weaves and synthetic fibers that imitate nature. Distorted prints and shapes, geometry altered to hurt the eye and contradictory combined textiles.
